Virginia is officially a battleground state.

Newsweek and the Richmond Times Dispatch have Kerry trailing Bush by only 3 pts, pre and post convention. Kerry is, of course, leading in Northern VA and Richmond but he has also now leading in the Tidewater region (mostly military) and around Lynchburg and Charlottesville (artsy, academic area). That means it’s completely possible for VA to go blue in November. A lot will depend on turnout. So, Democrats, spread the word. Your votes matter in VA this election.

he has also now leading ... around Lynchburg

This is really in print? Lynchburg? The greater state of Falwell? Home of ex-mayor James Whitaker and his church stores and brother-in-law who runs a "charismatic" (read:talk in tongues) church?

Wow, hell actually might be freezing over folks. Keep an eye out for them piggies flying low.

yep, but, that means the overall central VA region, not specifically the town of Lynchburg on its own. It includes the areas around Charlottesville (UVA) which are traditionally very liberal. It's not all that surprising that a dem would do well in that region. It's southern and south-western VA that are hardcore repub. (aka hick, religious, etc.)
